About the painting:
I am honored to have been selected the winner of the Federal Duck Stamp competition for a second time. My painting features a drake and hen canvasback on a South Dakota shoreline. It measures 7″X10″ and is completed in oil paints on Masonite board.
I spent a week on the west side of Eureka, South Dakota, studying and photographing canvasbacks and their habitat every day… taking approximately 4-5 thousand photos during my stay. It was an interesting week filled with wild temperature swings, wind, ice, a blizzard, clouds, and thankfully some sun. It was a lot of work, but it gave me a better insight as to what the canvasbacks deal with on a daily basis. My design was entirely inspired from this weeklong excursion and the painting itself took over 2 months to complete.
Prints available in different editions. See the “Federal Duck Stamp Print Option” sub-menu under the “Artwork” menu, for more information.
