This original oil painting completed on masonite board, measures 16.5 X 27.5 inches. This painting features four drake redheads competing for a single hen on a prairie marsh in mid spring. As with my other works, I wanted to portray more than just another painting of a ducks. Instead I wanted to give a true glimpse into the very lives of these birds. Also, these beautiful courtship rituals that occur every spring, on prime wetlands, point to the main purpose of habitat preservation and restoration. If you look close, you’ll notice that not only are the drakes all in different behavioral postures, but the ages of the birds vary as well.
